About The Position

This posting is for a Lower Elementary Classroom Teacher who will provide warm, dynamic, and academically rigorous instruction for young learners as part of Leland’s International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. The teacher will deliver thoughtful Tier 1 core instruction, differentiate to meet diverse student needs within the classroom, communicate proactively with families, and actively engage in the life of the school and district community. We are seeking a teacher who understands the profound importance of this educational stage; someone who will nurture curiosity and confidence, establishing the academic foundation that allows students to thrive for years to come.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Elementary Education
  • Demonstrated success in building a classroom community and delivering academic instruction
  • Ability to deliver high-quality classroom instruction, building community and relationships with students, staff, and families
  • Strong understanding of reading foundations, structured literacy, writing instruction, and math conceptual development; International Baccalaureate experience preferred
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and communicate data that informs instruction, including in-classroom interventions as needed
  • Demonstrate intellectual curiosity and a growth mindset; actively seeks feedback, engages in professional learning, and continuously refines instructional practice to better meet student needs
  • Professional communication skills in working with students, staff, and families

Nice To Haves

  • Training or familiarity with LPS core academic programs (Everyday Mathematics, Wit & Wisdom, Core Phonics Program, Fundations, OpenSciEd)
  • Training or familiarity with benchmark standardized assessments (e.g., NWEA MAP Growth) and experience with data-driven decision-making
  • Experience in an International Baccalaureate school/program, with Primary Years Programme knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned Tier 1 instruction in core subject areas
  • Create a purposeful classroom environment that is welcoming, relationship-centered, and conducive to joyful, focused learning
  • Foster student agency and help young learners see themselves as capable, curious, and responsible members of a learning community
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners, providing in-class interventions and supports as needed
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to thoughtfully adjust instruction, ensuring every student experiences growth and success
  • Establish clear routines and classroom management systems that promote responsibility and independence
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with families regarding student progress, needs, and celebrations
  • Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, interventionists, and support staff to develop International Baccalaureate Units of Inquiry, adjust curricular units, and design assessments
  • Maintain accurate student records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate professionalism while upholding district policies, and participating in professional learning, promoting school initiatives, and attending family-engagement events
