About The Position

Develop in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with a Christian Biblical Worldview.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree (required) in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related discipline.
  • Prior teaching experience in an elementary setting or higher grade level.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, handbooks, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before groups of students and staff.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy.
  • Basic proficiency is needed in word processing, e-mailing, accessing the Internet, school management software and curriculum mapping software
  • Expectations acknowledge Christ as Savior and support the school’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, Core Values and Statement of Faith; be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions towards others. This includes being committed to God’s Biblical standards for sexual conduct (Luke 6:40).
  • possess evidence of competence in area of instruction, or other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the school administrator
  • have a working knowledge of and follow LCA’s Employee Handbook, Parent & Student Handbook.
  • sign and live by the school’s Statement of Faith as a condition for employment and continued employment in this ministry
  • maintain confidentiality in the operation of the classroom and the school
  • refrain from unwholesome talk, including profanity, slang (language widely used and accepted, but not appropriate for godliness) or jokes that may be offensive
  • place his/her school ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities
  • maintain a personal appearance that models cleanliness, modesty, and good taste consistent with school policy.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and select engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans and instructional materials that align with school standards and integrate biblical principles into all areas of instruction.
  • Instruct students in the knowledge and skills of various art mediums, including drawing, painting, lettering, ceramics, 2D and 3D art, digital art and art history. Demonstrate techniques effectively to help students understand concepts.
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
  • Create a positive, engaging, and safe classroom environment conducive to learning, curiosity, and critical thinking.
  • Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding, providing regular progress reports and feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain hallway displays of student artwork, coordinating with parent volunteers as needed, and organize student artwork for contest submissions. Provide after school art opportunities. Collaborate with the Encore team in the lower school as well as the Fine Arts department across divisions.

  • have knowledge and understanding of the Christian philosophy of education that will enable him/her to provide leadership and guidance in the school’s development of and commitment to a Christian worldview
  • have knowledge of the school’s curriculum, standards, and mission
  • plan a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, engaging and challenging them to do their best work
  • employ a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child spiritually, mentally, physically, socially, and emotionally
  • plan through approved channels the balanced classroom use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media
  • regularly assess the learning of students, provide progress reports as required, and initiate parent conferences as needed while responding in a timely manner to parent complaints and to parent requests for help or information
  • Initiate continuous professional development through professional reading, college course work, in-services, workshops, and/or conferences
  • keep proper discipline in the classroom and on the school premises to maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment
  • maintain a physical presence with the students by attendance and participation in school chapels, assemblies, athletics events, and other presentations
  • participate in beginning and end-of-year staff orientation/In-Service, staff devotionals, and staff meetings
  • maintain regular and accurate attendance and grade records to meet the demands for a comprehensive knowledge of each student’s progress
  • keep students, parents, and the administration adequately informed of student progress or deficiencies and give sufficient notice of student failure or behavior issues
  • inform the administration in a timely manner if unable to fulfill any assigned duty
  • deal directly, frankly and respectfully with the school administration in an earnest effort to resolve differences of opinion when they exist
  • recognize the need for good public relations, representing the school in a favorable and professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public
  • participate in the school’s development programs and activities in areas of constituency relations, fund-raising, and student recruitment and retention
  • supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned. Embrace servant leadership
  • support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible
  • involve parents in prayer and volunteerism as appropriate
  • maintain a clean, attractive, and well-ordered classroom, utilizing bulletin boards and wall space in an instructive, interesting and attractive way that contributes to the excellence of learning
  • participate in the end-of-year school closing process, such as the inventorying of textbooks, furniture, and equipment
  • perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration
