About The Position

Assists surgeons and nursing personnel in the OR. Adheres to unit aseptic standards. Assembles necessary supplies for the surgical procedures. Assists the surgical team by passing instruments and related items as needed. Assists in sterile processing department as needed. Education and Formal Training: High School diploma or equivalent. LPNs may apply. Graduate from an accredited surgical tech program is desired. Will have current CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of hire date. Work Experience: Option 1: Graduate from accredited surgical tech program > 1 year experience with certificate preferred. Option 2: LPN hired into the OR or LPN < 3 year’s experience in OR/Endoscopy preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Needs to be willing to learn and perform different procedures. Also needs to have excellent communication skills to work directly with nurses, anesthesia, and physicians. Willingness to learn sterile technique, instruments, and correct passing techniques. Needs to also be willing to learn different equipment and knowledge to operate that equipment. Must demonstrate an ability to respond to changing workloads and to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical. Must demonstrate an even temperament, tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude. Must ensure that all contracts with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, and considerate manner.
