About The Position

Scot Forge Company is looking to hire a Machine Shop Intern for a 3 month internship at the manufacturing facility in Spring Grove, IL. The Internship is designed in such a way to allow students to experience a “hands-on” approach to learning in various facets of the manufacturing industry. Students have the opportunity to learn in a modern production facility where they will be introduced to valuable knowledge in the industrial fields and forging industry. This program is intended for students interested in pursuing a career in the manufacturing field and gain technical skills. This Program Offers: Paid Compensation  Professional Career Development and Mentoring Real World Problem Solving  Meaningful Project Work  Collaborative Work Environment  Flexible Scheduling Around Class Schedule Anticipated Projects and Daily Tasks include: Participate in Continuous Improvement Projects developed with team; practice documentation and project management skills; utilize Lean Six Sigma / 5S / Lean Manufacturing and related tools  Work 1-on-1 with experienced Machinists to learn CNC Machining of products of variety of sizes, shapes, and materials Visually inspect materials for flaws and defects. Read machining technical drawings and work orders. Acquire the skills to perform start-up, safety checks, part layout, monitor CNC/Lathe equipment for correct operation and shut-down processes on machines. Identify machine set up, tools and materials needed. Interpret machining symbols and procedures. Gain experience in documenting equipment use and/or operational problems and communicating it to the proper personnel. Learn when dimensional inspections are required, the process and dimensional measuring of parts. CNC Machining Asset Types: Horizontal Lathes, Vertical Lathes, 5-axis Horizontal Boring Mills, and more!  Materials potentially worked with: Steel, Copper, Aluminum, Titanium, and more! 

Requirements

  • Active student enrolled higher education programs in precision machining, finished machining, or similar
  • Ability to work minimum 30 hours a week in shop floor environment – Flexible schedule around coursework
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and apply manufacturing and industry knowledge and think critically.
  • Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all personnel.
  • Project Management
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Must be authorized to work anywhere in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Must be able to pass a 90 day head hair drug test today
  • Ability to lift up to 65 lbs

Responsibilities
