About The Position

POLYWOOD® is looking for a Machine Toolroom Technician who thrives in a hands-on manufacturing environment and takes pride in precision craftsmanship. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys building, repairing, and modifying high-quality tooling while working to tight tolerances that directly support production efficiency and product quality. This role plays an important part in supporting the employees who build, ship, and innovate our furniture every day. By ensuring our tooling, dies, fixtures, and machine components are built and maintained to the highest standards, you directly contribute to product quality, operational efficiency, and a culture of craftsmanship and pride on the production floor.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience in a toolroom or precision machining environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or apprenticeship in Tool & Die, Machining, or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, metal properties, and tooling materials.
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances (±.001” or better).
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with CAD/CAM software preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.

  • CNC programming experience.
  • CAD & CAM experience.
  • Experience with surface grinding and wire EDM.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and EDM equipment.
  • Manufacture, repair, and modify tooling, fixtures, dies, molds, and machine components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documents.
  • Measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, CMM, etc.).
  • Perform precision grinding, fitting, and assembly of tool components.
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Follow safety standards and maintain a clean, organized toolroom environment.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve tooling performance and reduce downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on toolroom equipment.
