The primary responsibility of the Machinist 1 is to interpret and operate all the equipment in the department. Incumbent will work under moderate supervision. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Responsible for accurate completion of daily inspection documents, i.e., daily inspection form, first machined piece, QCI-related forms, and Process Control Charts. Read and interpret the “recipe” for the parts being heat treated into the control of all equipment as needed. Schedule and/or mix furnace loads as needed to meet production demands and maximize the throughput of each furnace. Interact with the metallurgical lab to ensure the quality and timely release of the parts produced; Provide clear instructions to the furnace loader. Set up and/or program the computerized parts marking system or hand stamp as needed to properly mark each part according to standard work instructions. Log all appropriate data from the various controls located on each furnace and enter it into the computer according to standard work instructions. Will be required to safely start or recover all equipment as needed regardless of if it is a cold start, recovery from a power or equipment failure. Other duties as assigned. WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: May be exposed to moderate heat, light dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, noise and hazards such as electrical shock or gases. Some outside assignments could involve exposure to adverse weather conditions. Adequate hearing protection is required for 85 decibels and above. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
