About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced Machinist 5 to support precision instrument research, development, and manufacturing. This role requires deep expertise in both manual and CNC machining, with a strong emphasis on prototype development as well as batch manufacturing. The Machinist V will be a key technical contributor and trusted partner to engineering, scientific, and manufacturing teams, playing a critical role in the company’s continued growth and innovation.

Responsibilities

Set up, program, and operate CNC milling machines and lathes (machining centers); familiarity with HAAS controls strongly preferred.
Perform precision machining using manual lathes and mills.
Develop and optimize CNC programs using CAM software; familiarity with GibbsCAM preferred.
Manufacture high-precision prototype components and support transition to low- and mid-volume batch production.
Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings and specifications.
Apply GD&T per ANSI/ASME Y14.5-1994 standards.
Perform part inspection using manual inspection tools and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
Apply strong understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and material properties to optimize quality and efficiency.
Collaborate closely with engineering, scientific, assembly, and manufacturing teams to resolve design-for-manufacturability issues.
Maintain accurate documentation and records using standard computer tools (e.g., MS Word, Excel).
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to machining processes, quality, and throughput.
Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support additional tasks and responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Perform other duties as assigned.
