About The Position

Support production and other departments by diagnosing, repairing, and creating tooling. More specifically this position will analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine centers, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges.

Requirements

  • Certified Machinist at minimum, with some experience in Tool & Die repair
  • Desire & ability to learn/use new tools and techniques for production tooling
  • Good Computer Skills in a MS Windows Environment
  • Detail oriented and a drive for accuracy and efficiency
  • Proficient in verbal/written English and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, sharpen, assemble/disassemble, and maintain tooling (including common tool steel materials) to support product quality, production efficiency, on-time shipment, and scrap reduction.
  • Diagnose tooling issues on and off production machinery in collaboration with Toolroom, Production, and Engineering teams; provide input to improve tool designs and processes.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using machine and hand tools.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, models, and specifications to plan work; calculate dimensions, tolerances, feeds/speeds, and geometry; provide feedback when needed.
  • The ability to learn EDM, CNC lathe, and CAD is required.
  • Inspect and verify precision parts and finished tooling for conformance using proper measuring and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, dial indicators).
  • Set up and operate toolroom equipment such as mills, lathes, drill presses, band saws, parts cleaning equipment, basic heat-treat ovens, and jib hoists.
  • Safely lift, position, and secure machined parts using appropriate lifting devices (e.g., forklifts, hoists) and fixturing (e.g., vises, V-blocks, angle plates).
  • Perform test runs with completed tooling to confirm parts meet specifications; adjust tooling as required.
  • Maintain accurate task/tooling records and use Microsoft-based tools for documentation and communication.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities and projects aimed at reducing downtime and cost while improving performance.
  • Follow all company and regulatory safety requirements (including OSHA) and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
  • Meet physical and scheduling requirements, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working overtime when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties within the employee’s capabilities as assigned.
