About the position

The Madison Community Scholars program offers a paid position that provides real-world experience while creating a positive social impact. Students work with local community organizations, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the community. The program is designed for current full-time JMU students who are eligible for Federal Work Study and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students will work 6-8 hours per week with a community organization, participate in workshops, and receive mentorship throughout the school year.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage social media, including developing content and responding to comments.
  • Develop marketing collateral such as social media posts, pamphlets, posters, and website assets.
  • Audit existing promotional materials for consistency in look, feel, and voice.
  • Partner with organization stakeholders to drive awareness around events, initiatives, and offerings.
  • Manage timesheets through an online platform and submit them twice a month.
  • Participate in on-campus workshops and attend one-on-one meetings with a CEVC MCS advisor.

Requirements

  • Must be a current JMU student enrolled in at least 6 credits.
  • Eligible for Federal Work Study via the '25 - '26 financial aid package.
  • Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Commitment to work an average of 6 - 8 hours per week for at least one semester.
