About The Position

Apogee Global RMS is looking for a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer who will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing z/OS mainframe environments that support mission‑critical enterprise workloads. This role requires strong technical ownership, deep understanding of IBM mainframe subsystems, and the ability to ensure high availability, performance, and security across complex infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 5–12+ years of experience as a Mainframe Systems Programmer.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with z/OS, SMP/E, JES2/JES3, and IBM mainframe utilities.
  • Experience supporting one or more subsystems: CICS, IMS, DB2, MQ, RACF, VTAM, TCP/IP.
  • Solid understanding of mainframe storage, catalog management, and performance tuning.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills using IBM tools and logs.
  • Strong ownership mindset and operational discipline.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross‑functional engineering teams.
  • Structured problem‑solving and documentation habits.
  • Commitment to stability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with mainframe modernization or hybrid integration initiatives.
  • Familiarity with REXX, CLIST, or automation scripting.
  • Exposure to DR orchestration, GDPS, or sysplex environments.
  • Relevant IBM certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Install, customize, and maintain z/OS and related IBM subsystems.
  • Manage SMP/E, system upgrades, patching, and maintenance cycles.
  • Configure system parameters, parmlib members, exits, and JES2/JES3 environments.
  • Support and tune core components such as VTAM, TCP/IP, RACF, DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, or equivalent.
  • Troubleshoot subsystem performance, availability, and integration issues.
  • Maintain catalog structures, storage classes, and data management utilities.
  • Analyze system performance, capacity, and utilization trends.
  • Implement automation tools and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
  • Support IPL processes, disaster recovery testing, and system cloning activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues across hardware, OS, and middleware layers.
  • Collaborate with application, network, and security teams to ensure end‑to-end stability.
  • Maintain documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.
