About The Position

This Maintenance/Construction Technician III position is responsible for site maintenance, repairs, groundskeeping and water system management at the Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site in Midland, North Carolina. This position works a Monday-Friday schedule, with occasional night or weekend work.

Requirements

• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have a Drinking Water Operator Certification and/or Wastewater Operator Certification from NCDEQ or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
• Must have the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions.
• Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional night and weekend required as needed.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate verbally with supervisor and coworkers and understand verbal and written instructions and communications regarding work assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of/working with historic mines, rock features, tunnels, and rock mining equipment.
• Chainsaw operations training.

Responsibilities

• Performing a variety of skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
• Ability to operate common types of small tools and power equipment
• Maintaining records and preparing operational forms and monthly reports.
• Serving as on-site supervisor to at least two maintenance personnel. Preparing and assigning daily work tasks and ensuring deadlines are met.
• Provide public interpretation as needed for special events, field trips, and/or outreach programs.
