About The Position

Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, graders, excavators, and dump trucks for construction, road repair, site preparation, and related Tribal projects. Perform routine maintenance, safety checks, and minor repairs on assigned equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Transport materials including soil, gravel, refuse, etc. as needed for Tribal projects and waste management functions. Assist in the daily operation of the Tribal solid waste program, including collection, hauling, sorting, and disposal of refuse. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and Tribal regulations regarding waste disposal, recycling, and environmental safety. Maintain accurate logs of equipment use, maintenance, and waste management activities. Safely load and unload waste containers and operate compactors, balers, and other related equipment. Participate in community cleanup efforts, hazardous waste collection, and special waste management projects. Follow safety protocols and report hazards, incidents, or equipment malfunctions promptly. Assist with snow removal, emergency response, and seasonal public works projects. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license (Class A or B preferred) and comply with the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred/willing to receive training.
  • Experience in waste management, sanitation services, or related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of safe heavy equipment operation and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Tribal leadership, staff, contractors, and community members.
  • Commitment to upholding Tribal values, sovereignty, and environmental stewardship.
