About The Position

The Maintenance Specialist at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) works as part of a small team responsible for maintaining the property, facilities, equipment, and systems at Camp St. Albans (Allyn, WA) and Camp Lyle McLeod (Tahuya, WA), supporting the safety and security of both sites. Other duties include forest management, site coverage and hosting of camper groups, and stewardship of the volunteer community.

This is a regular, full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt on-site role based in Western Washington. Preference is for candidates who live within reasonable distance of the camp properties listed above. While the full pay range is $23.08 to $28.85 per hour, this position will start at $23.08 per hour for purposes of internal pay equity.

Requirements

• Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. and physical stamina to work throughout camp, including rough terrain and extensive hills
• Ability to work outdoors year-round in aquatic and forestland habitats, including waterfront and upland forested areas, in all weather conditions
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills to ensure effective interaction with individuals at all levels and backgrounds
• Experience safely operating & maintaining power tools and equipment, including chainsaws, trimmers, brush mowers, hoists, and general shop tools.
• Experience safely operating and maintaining rigging equipment, utility vehicles, powered and non-powered marine crafts, and towing equipment trailers.
• Experience maintaining recreational trails and logging roads
• Experience working with limited resources in a rural, outdoor setting
• Experience working safely in cramped spaces such as crawl spaces pipe chases
• Experience working safely on ladders and maintaining roofs of various heights
• Ability to work safely with chemicals, including but not limited to paints, sealers, solvents, etc.
• Strong sense of environmental stewardship
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize project tasks, work independently and collaboratively, take initiative, meet deadlines, and effectively communicate work progress & delays to direct supervisor in a timely manner
• Ability to ask for direct support when help is needed
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Willingness to demonstrate a commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of girls and staff
• Basic skills preferred in Microsoft 365, including Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, Word, and Excel
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of three years of experience in trade skills including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, commercia kitchens, forestry and vehicle maintenance
• Experience working effectively both independently and as part of a small team
• Must reside within Washington State, with preference being residence within reasonable driving distance of assigned camp properties.
• Must be available to work varied hours including some nights and weekends as necessary, with advanced notice.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, consistent access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and the ability to fulfill travel requirements across widespread regional geography as necessary.
• Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
• Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
• Must be willing and able to work at an alternative worksite as needed or when requested.

Responsibilities

• Follow the established camp maintenance plan to maintain camp property, facilities, equipment, and systems at the direction of the Camp Property Operations Manager and in accordance with health and safety regulations, Girl Scout, and American Camp Association standards.
• Perform hosting duties and provide excellent customer service to camp users, GSWW staff, and volunteers, including check-in and check-out duties, sanitizing facilities, and encouraging, maintaining security & stewardship of the property.
• Contribute to a positive image for Girl Scouting by maintaining positive public and interpersonal relations with visitors, guests, staff, volunteers, vendors, businesses, governmental agencies, and the local community.
• Assist in the facilitation of stewardship activities for staff, youth, and volunteers engaged in work weekends or other volunteer site maintenance or trail work.
• Assist in implementing GSWW capital projects and major maintenance projects.
• Maintain a log of maintenance activities and other records as directed.
• Provide on-call and evening/weekend coverage as necessary.
