Requirements

  • A Certification in a relevant maintenance trade, knowledge of manufacturing, maintenance operations and related processes with 7-10 years of progressive experience in an automotive (JIT) Tier 1 manufacturing environment, or equivalent combination of both.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement processes/lean manufacturing concepts, methods and principles.
  • Good understanding of the expense budget; understanding of operational planning with strong project management skills to manage/co-ordinate extensive internal and external project resources.
  • Ability to partner with internal/external customers, suppliers and contractors.
  • Working knowledge of customer shipping requirements, inventory controls, production scheduling, plant/equipment maintenance, engineering systems and procedures and plant raw materials.
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and proficiency with Microsoft and other manufacturing related software.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and practices at SHSS.
  • Ensures employees know how to perform each job assigned to them in an efficient manner and that they are fully aware of the correct and safe way to operate their equipment.
  • Ensures employees are instructed on the use and comply with Company standards on the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Responsible for recognizing and rectifying unsafe working conditions, maintains excellent housekeeping in the department and ensures that a proper investigation of any accident is completed and reported in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all Company safety policies, procedures and rules.
  • Ensure that all maintenance departmental objectives and activities are aligned to the Magna Employee Charter, Magna Corporate Constitution and Operation Principles.
  • Provides direction to employees in facility related matters.
  • Responsible for scheduling and assigning of daily duties of all employees.
  • Reviews completed work for conformance to standards.
  • Deliver on commitments made, treat people at all levels fairly and with respect.
  • Responds to employees concerns in a timely manner (general issues, safety concerns, etc.).
  • Responsible for providing clear and specific performance feedback. and appraises the effectiveness of employees on their annual developmental review.
  • Develop others and improve employees' performance through coaching, training and development activities.
  • Responsible for communicating and training of employees to ensure compliance to Technical System Procedures and Instructions within the facility.
  • Develop an annual maintenance plan, ensure proper completion of scheduling of major plant projects, plant shutdown maintenance program, quoting of estimated hours of downtime required for repairing breakdowns and provide necessary updates to facility management and oversee the implementation of ongoing and preventative maintenance on all SHSS equipment and authorizes all maintenance related purchase orders.
  • Promote cost reduction programs for the maintenance area.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance to the plant maintenance budget.
  • Provide leadership to the entire maintenance organization in order to motivate, develop, and monitor employee performance levels directed at achieving assigned goals and targets.
  • Ensure compliance of all maintenance personnel in regard to scheduling of outside contractors within Company guidelines.
  • Ensures procedures are in place to properly expedite lead-time items with suppliers.
  • Perform special projects in support of the organizations business objectives.

  • Maintain and clean, safe and professional place for employees to work by utilizing them during downtime or agreed upon contractual time.
  • Take the lead in implementing successful job rotations that are developed by the safety engineer and approved by the management team.
  • Ensure all employees have a safe environment in that all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected and/or eliminated.
  • Enforce safety rules, policies, and procedures consistently, and respond to and investigate all reports of accidents or injuries in a timely manner.
  • Thoroughly train new employees, correct or commend employees' health and safety performance. and conduct adequate performance appraisals by evaluating an employee's safety performance,
  • Take an active part in the plant safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, conducting regular workplace inspections, conducting safety talks in departmental meetings, effectively investigate accidents/incidents promptly, and assist in meeting or exceeding plant safety goals.
  • Display a positive attitude towards safety and lead by example that will result in a safe and healthful workplace for all who work at Spring Hill Seating Systems.
  • Ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental standards are adhered to in accordance to the Magna Employee Charter and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
