About The Position

The Maintenance Team Member is responsible for supporting the smooth operation and upkeep of the school's physical assets . The position involves performing hands-on maintenance tasks and repairs, grounds upkeep, assisting with preventive maintenance initiatives, and supporting daily operations to ensure a s afe, functional, and welcoming environment. The Maintenance Team Member will work with internal staff, some contractors and vendors, and contribute to the long-term effectiveness of the school's facilities team. This is a 1 2-month, full-time, hourly, non-exempt position paying $18 to $22/hour, commensurate with experience. The Team Member reports to the Director of Facilities and will receive day-to-day direction from that role. The Maintenance Team Member may occasionally support projects or tasks assigned by the Director of Strategic Operations ; such tasks will be coordinated with and communicated to the Director of Facilities to ensure clarity and alignment.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in maintenance, trades, or facilities management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or structural issues.
  • Ability to operate a computer and effectively use a work order system to receive, document, and complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to follow directions while also exercising sound judgment and initiative to address issues within the assigned scope.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, students, vendors, and visitors.
  • Willingness to learn and follow school-specific policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including prolonged standing and walking; bending, kneeling, and reaching; lifting and moving materials and equipment up to 50 pounds; manual labor tasks such as furniture moves and snow removal; and indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license required, as well as the ability to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on maintenance tasks across the campus, including routine repairs, grounds upkeep, and general troubleshooting.
  • Assist with r outine support tasks, including trash removal, moving furniture and supplies, and other necessary practical duties.
  • Identify and escalate maintenance issues that need outsourced attention.
  • Monitor and maintain the physical condition of buildings, grounds, vehicles, and systems to ensure safety, functionality, and a welcoming environment.
  • Use the school's work order system to manage and track assigned tasks, ensuring timely completion and clear communication with the team.
  • Identify issues proactively and take appropriate action within the assigned scope to ensure staff, students, and visitors experience a safe and well-maintained campus.
  • Follow all safety and operational procedures, and promptly escalate any potential hazards, safety issues, or maintenance concerns
  • Work occasional overtime, evenings, or weekends as required to support campus operations and special events, such as the school picnics, Family Weekend or Commencement.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to urgent after-hours facilities needs as required.
  • Fill in as a backup bus driver when coverage is needed (CDL not required).
