About The Position

Under general supervision, to perform skilled work involved in the maintenance and delivery of refuse containers. Repair and maintain related equipment and general yard maintenance. SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position exercises no supervision. IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Perform maintenance and repairs on polyethylene refuse containers. Operate a forklift and related material-handling equipment. Operate a City vehicle or personal vehicle to visit other work locations, attend meetings, and events. Occasionally operate trucks with flatbed trailers and other associated equipment. Perform routine maintenance on equipment including forklifts, mowers, tractors, and air compressors. Maintain facility grounds by removing litter and debris, mowing, and operating weed eaters. Track and maintain inventory of required supplies, materials, and tools. Maintain accurate daily logs of containers repaired, replaced, and delivered. Receive and unload delivered supplies and materials. Review and assess service request tickets and complete required actions in a timely manner. Provide operational and manpower support to other Solid Waste & Recycling personnel as needed. OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and occupational hazards and safety precautions of general maintenance work.
  • Skill to: Operate and care for a variety of tools, materials and equipment.
  • Skill to: Operate motorized equipment safely, including forklifts, tractors, and mowers.
  • Skill to: Service yard equipment.
  • Ability to: Use hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to: Maintain accurate records on supplies, materials, and time.
  • Ability to: Complete work legibly, accurately, and in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to: Read a map and use mapping software.
  • Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.

  • Formal or informal education or training that provides the ability to read and write at a level necessary to successfully perform the job is required.
  • A Texas Driver’s License, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience in performing heavy manual work is preferred.
  • Demonstrated safe and consistent operation of tractors and forklifts for a minimum of 12 months is preferred.
