About The Position

The Children's Home of Wyoming Conference partners with children, families, and communities throughout New York State to inspire hope, develop skills and cultivate healthy relationships for positive futures. $18-20 an hour Position Summary: The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the maintenance and care of all buildings and grounds. They perform everyday maintenance tasks and preventative maintenance duties that maintain a safe environment for the children and staff. They supervise, teach, and act as a role model for youth on work assignments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED required
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry
  • Must be able to work effectively with children, families, staff, and community contacts with a diversity of backgrounds and life situations required
  • Some working knowledge of computers required
  • Driver's License and ability to maintain insurability throughout employment required

Responsibilities

  • Perform general carpentry, electrical, and plumbing tasks
  • Snow removal plowing, and shoveling
  • Perform cleaning activities such as dusting, mopping, etc.
  • Do garden/yard upkeep by mowing lawn, collecting trash, etc.
  • Check control panels and electrical wiring to identify issues
  • Install appliances and equipment
  • Perform minor fixes such as repairing broken locks, filling gaps on walls, replacing light bulbs etc.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot equipment and systems (ex. ventilation)
  • Check functionality of safety systems (ex. fire alarm)
  • Collaborate with workers and other professionals during renovations
  • Complete reports and documentation that are required in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that Agency, State, Federal, and Accreditation standards are fully met.
  • Provide recommendations regarding facility improvements.
  • Take initiative in observing and notifying the Maintenance Supervisor of maintenance problems or areas requiring attention, repair, replacement, servicing, etc
  • Maintain responsive professional communication within the agency and with community contacts and vendors
