About The Position

Outer Cape Health Services (OCHS) seeks a dynamic, donor-centered Major Gifts Officer to advance our mission of providing equitable, community-based healthcare to all who live in or visit the Outer Cape. This position plays a critical role in securing major philanthropic support by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors capable of giving $10,000 or more annually. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer will build and manage a portfolio of approximately 120–150 prospects and donors, working closely with organizational leadership, clinical champions, board members, and volunteers to deepen engagement and generate transformational support for OCHS’s strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a focus on individual giving or major gifts.
  • Demonstrated success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop trust-based relationships with a diverse group of donors, staff, and volunteers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to craft compelling donor communications.
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
  • Comfort working in a mission-driven, community-based, and collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency with fundraising databases (Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or similar CRM).
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the Cape and Islands region and to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Passion for equitable health care access and the mission of Outer Cape Health Services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, organizational abilities, computer experience, and the ability to work within a collaborative team setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – bi-lingual helpful.
  • Proficiency in computer skills including Outlook, Microsoft office, OneDrive, etc.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify & Qualify Major Donor Prospects: Use data, referrals, research, and institutional knowledge to build and qualify a robust pipeline of prospective major donors.
  • Portfolio Management: Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of 120–150 individual donors and prospects, ensuring regular outreach, relationship-building, and movement toward solicitation.
  • Cultivation & Solicitation: Develop customized strategies to cultivate, solicit, and close gifts of $10,000 and above, in support of key initiatives such as primary care transformation, behavioral health expansion, and community-based services.
  • Donor Stewardship: Ensure timely, thoughtful stewardship of all major donors, including impact reports, recognition, personalized outreach, and strategic engagement.
  • Collaboration: Partner with the Director of Development, CEO, medical staff, and board members to coordinate donor visits and solicitations; prepare briefing materials and follow-up communications as needed.
  • Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the CRM (Salesforce or equivalent); regularly report on portfolio activity and progress toward goals.
  • Campaign & Initiative Support: Contribute to the planning and execution of capital campaigns and special fundraising initiatives, as needed.
  • Ambassadorship: Represent OCHS at donor meetings, community events, and other key gatherings to build relationships and elevate the organization’s visibility.
