About The Position

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Performs breast imaging and bone density procedures. • Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by the radiologist. • Prepares the patient for procedures, providing instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. • Selects and operates imaging equipment, image capture devices and accessory devices to successfully perform procedures. • Positions patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort. • Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination, explaining the need for breast compression during mammography. • Determines exposure factors. • Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. • Evaluates images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. • Uses radiology information systems, including PACS, completes all required records and reports, and submits images for physician review and interpretation. • Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures. • Verifies informed consent for interventional procedures as required. • Assists radiologist and physicians during procedures, performs breast specimen radiography as assigned. • Practices aseptic technique as necessary. • If assigned to perform radiographer duties: Prepares and administers contrast media as appropriate to procedures performed; Performs non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures under physician supervision and in compliance with policy. Performs surgical and portable radiographic exams. • Initiates basic life support action when necessary. • Provides patient education. • Provides input for supply and equipment decisions, maintains control of inventory and supplies. • Assumes responsibility for assigned area, reports equipment malfunction. • Provides practical instruction for students and partners. • Observes universal protocol, standard precautions, and appropriate patient identifiers. • Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of radiographic and mammographic procedures, including assisting and transporting patients. • Prepares schedules, obtains and reviews previous mammograms, makes follow-up calls, and performs other tasks as assigned. • Completes forms and maintains records, logs, and reports of work performed in accordance with MQSA. • Utilizes appropriate scripting, barriers and patient identifiers. Working knowledge of PACS. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
  • ARRT Radiography registration required
  • ARRT Mammography certification required (or must be obtained within two years of hire)
  • IEMA-DNS radiography accreditation required if working in Illinois
  • WI-DSPS radiographer license required if working in Wisconsin
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required with in 90 days
  • Passing the Driver’s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).
  • Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
  • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • knowledge of internet software; order processing systems and Word Processing software.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Mammographer experience preferred.
  • Bone Densitometry Certification preferred but not required
