About The Position

At Uvalde Memorial Hospital, accurate health information plays a vital role in delivering quality care and ensuring the integrity of our healthcare operations. We are looking for an experienced Ambulatory Coding Manager who is passionate about leadership, compliance, and supporting the vital work behind the scenes of patient care. In this role, you will lead and support our coding team, ensuring medical records are coded accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations. You will work closely with physicians, billing teams, and hospital leadership to maintain coding quality, improve processes, and strengthen revenue cycle performance. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two years of medical coding experience with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of coding guidelines, compliance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with coding software, EHR systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Coding certification preferred (COC or CCS-P) or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of medical coders.
  • Assign and monitor coding workloads to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Ensure coding practices follow ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct coding audits and implement quality assurance measures to maintain high accuracy standards.
  • Provide training and ongoing education to coding staff on regulatory updates and best practices.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other departments to resolve documentation questions.
  • Partner with billing and revenue cycle teams to address denials and optimize reimbursement.
  • Track performance metrics and provide reports on coding productivity, accuracy, and trends.
  • Assist the HIM Director in maintaining coding policies, procedures, and compliance standards.
