About The Position

Position Summary Manages the monthly activities of the general ledger close and production of the monthly, consolidated financial statements and the daily activities of the Non-Utility Accounting. Tasks and Responsibilities • Manages the work of the Non-Utility Accounting staff, including hiring, evaluating, training, performance management, compensating, motivating, coaching, and developing goals and procedures to ensure the achievement of goals • Leads and coordinates the monthly closing process. Specifically, manages the execution of a monthly closing process to accumulate financial accounting data into the accounting system (PeopleSoft GL) and to produce financial statements (standalone and consolidated) that conform/comply with GAAP, SEC and/or regulatory requirements and are compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 control procedures • Coordinates the following: o With senior management to conduct financial statement due diligence and quarterly reviews; o With internal and external auditors for all interim reviews and annual audits of the Company’s accounting records, including the timing of such reviews and audits, and the communication and delivery of all informational requirements; o With other departments within US Utilities Finance and other internal and external stakeholders on the timing of report filings and the communication and delivery of all financial informational requirements; • Manages the formulation and updating of Finance-related policies and procedures • Leads the Non-Utility Accounting staff in supporting the non-utility business operations in the power and gas segments including management reporting and analysis, business processes and finance support • Works with cross-functional teams to analyze and implement the accounting and reporting for new business transactions • Executes the tactical strategies within the area, including identification, design and implementation of improvements in policies, processes and systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting, finance or related field required
  • 7+ Years Experience in accounting (or a Master’s degree plus 5 years of accounting experience) required
  • 2+ Years Supervisory experience required
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of GAAP and the ability to interpret and apply relevant accounting guidance to specific business transactions or events
  • Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office and advanced functions in Excel, to share, retrieve, research and present business information
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively evaluate multiple scenarios and to implement effective solutions to broadly defined business problems
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors, subordinates and peers
  • Demonstrated ability to meet numerous internal and external deadlines often under tight time constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to present diverse ideas logically and concisely both verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a public accounting firm preferred
  • Technical accounting experience helpful
  • CPA preferred
  • Proven working knowledge of PeopleSoft or other ERP system experience preferred
