About The Position

Responsible for managing the estimating function of the company, including the training of estimating personnel, development of estimating policies and procedures, and developing and maintaining building valuation system(s), to further the company objective of acquiring and retaining profitable church and related ministry business.

Requirements

  • Must be able to locate and extract essential construction elements from blueprints, understand and apply basic construction math, and have a general understanding of construction practices (excavation, concrete, various structural techniques, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical).
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and be skilled in time management and able to plan and execute work strategies.
  • Must be able to inspect structures by walking, climbing, bending and stooping.
  • Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and present a positive and professional image.
  • Must be able to effectively present the estimating perspective in small and large group settings.
  • Must meet company competency standard for business writing skills.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must have five or more years of general business, insurance or estimating experience.
  • Must have at least 3 years of supervisory, management or project lead experience.

Nice To Haves

  • CPCU, CRM, ARM or equivalent designations is desired.
  • Hands-on experience in construction, building/industrial maintenance or real estate valuation and estimating experience is desired.
  • More than five years of previous management experience is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Train, evaluate, and develop assigned estimating personnel in accomplishing the essential functions of their positions.
  • Identify and provide underwriting with accurate property values of prospective and existing insureds.
  • Actively promote Brotherhood Mutual through internal and external seminar and agency meeting presentations.
  • Develop and maintain estimating systems that provide accurate property valuations of buildings unique the company’s target niche.
  • Read and understand construction blueprints in order to gather information to complete a large/complex building cost valuation.
  • Communicate analyzed data to the appropriate underwriter, rater or agent.
  • Ensure that updates are entered for territory multipliers for the non-commercial buildings and that territory multipliers for new states are developed.
  • Conduct on-site building valuations of existing and prospective policyholders to assist underwriters in determining the appropriate premium.
  • Assist management in developing strategic goals for the department and in the drafting of the annual estimating plan.
  • Identify and communicate estimating issues to Underwriting and company management.
  • Recruit and develop estimating personnel by coaching, mentoring, evaluating and training.
  • Ensure that building estimating reports are timely completed in order to meet underwriter’s limitations on cancellation, non-renewal, and production requirements.
  • Develop and adhere to a company and department established budget and presentations.
  • Anticipate and recommend action to address emerging building valuation issues that affect our industry and market niche.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
