About The Position

The Manager, Fleet and Freight Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight of transportation and fleet operations. This role ensures efficient, cost-effective processes for vehicle and freight management while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, safety, and company standards. The manager collaborates closely with senior leaders, internal teams, and external vendors to achieve corporate goals and optimize operations. Works with senior leadership to develop and manage departmental budgets, including forecasting expenses related to fleet maintenance, freight operations, and personnel. The Manager monitors financial performance, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and ensures fiscal responsibility across all areas of fleet and freight operations. As part of fleet operations management, the Manager oversees transportation requirements for a fleet of approximately 120 vehicles. This includes advising on fleet standards, operations, procurement specifications, requirements, and recommendations. The Manager ensures the Vehicle Maintenance Facility meets applicable regulatory requirements, including OSHA, environmental standards, and other federal, state, and local regulations. Additionally, the Manager conducts associate training in fleet safety, regulatory compliance, and certification requirements, while supporting the development and implementation of policies and procedures, management meetings, and special reporting requests from senior leadership. Oversees freight operations by developing, implementing, and managing a corporate freight management plan to ensure the efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods and timely delivery.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree
  • Experience in Federal and local government regulations, safety procedures, environmental legislation, required licensing, registrations, and all certifications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ten years of asset management or procurement experience
  • Four years of experience in a group lead capacity giving work direction to other associates, providing input to Manager on associates' performance, and serving as the point of contact for escalations
  • Understanding of entire supply chain; keeps abreast of industry markets, competitive situations, supply sources, and sales potentials
  • Extensive computer skills, including procurement application software, reporting software, Excel, Word and other database environments
  • Accepts responsibility and is accountable; detail oriented, strong analytical skills; technical aptitude; unquestionable integrity
  • Knowledge of transmission line and substation materials/equipment and warehousing
  • Understanding of environmental regulations, legal aspects of selling and accounting practices
  • Works independently; self starter; ability to proactively determine best course of action in problem solving
  • Ability to work well with others; contribute to team environment
  • Ability to multi-task & prioritize
  • Excellent marketing, negotiating and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation)
