About The Position

Dedicated role within manufacturing that serves as the global process subject matter expert (SME) for global transportation, including international and domestic shipping and Green Logistics. Global Logistics Transportation Manager will drive the development and implementation of global transportation strategies, continuous improvement projects, cost effectiveness projects in coordination with global procurement, and support launches of new products from transportation point of view. This position will represent Lilly in discussions with external partners (e.g. freight forwarders). They will also be required to lead or participate in special projects in support of the Manufacturing Site, External Manufacturing or Global Logistics department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5+ years experience in Transportation Logistics

Responsibilities

  • Setting and executing strategic direction: As Global SME Transportation
  • Process management
  • Setting the strategic direction for Global Transportation (mode, strategic partners, tools for API, semi-finished and finished product)
  • Identify global productivity opportunities.
  • Present business cases to manufacturing Sites and Affiliates and Global Logistics and Global Supply Chain Lead team.
  • Generate cost saving strategies, implement and validate them with global procurement.
  • Peer benchmark.
  • Prepare written documentation and provide periodic verbal updates describing strategic direction, performance metrics, emerging trends.
  • Lead cross-functional Global Transportation Forum .
  • Provide business and strategic plan inputs for global transportation.
  • Support and provide guidance and recommendations to the TMS team as Global Transportation SME.
  • Relationship Management with Global Freight Forwarders
  • Lead QBR’s
  • Lead and drive the operational and technical agenda of the Global Transportation Forum
  • Engagement owner with freight forwarders.
  • Contract Management: maintenance and oversight of contracts, partner with Procurement, Quality & Legal in the negotiation process service contracts, Quality Agreements and SOPs, reviewing warehouse and logistics fees across the Region and identify “best value”
  • Performance and SLA management
  • Regular meetings with key account management with focus on process improvements, business development and escalation of issues
  • Drive sustainability initiatives
  • Drive Global Logistics initiatives to improve sustainability in transportation. Maintain global logistics metrics on sustainability and collaborate with the Global Supply Chain Resiliency Team to align on strategic direction.
  • Prepare written documentation and provide periodic verbal updates describing strategic direction, changes in regulations, performance metrics and emerging trends.
  • Work with Global HSE, Global Supply Chain Resiliency, Regional Leaders and Global Logistics Lead for affiliate distribution in Zone 2 to identify and implement sustainability projects related with scope 3.
  • External benchmark to understand emerging trends and regulations.
  • Support Regional Distribution:
  • Support Regional Transportation Hubs implementation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting regional logistics issues such as loss, theft, and delays. Ensure root causes are identified and sustainable countermeasures and enacted.
  • Actively participate and seek leadership opportunities for regional logistics forums such as transportation, security, and operational excellence.
  • Support regional manufacturing Sites as well as the external manufacturing organization during global logistics project implementations and daily operations.
  • Actively participate and provide recommendations for Global Logistics function - including strategy design, issue escalation, best practices (temperature control, security, productivity, etc), logistics metrics, organizational design and logistics standards.
