About The Position

Exciting opportunity to join a dynamic workplace and play a role in supporting the growth and development of the Office of the Children’s Guardian. Join our high performing Executive Office, a dedicated team who play a key role in driving the OCG’s strategic initiatives and Government commitments located at Strawberry Hills with flexible working arrangements. 12-month temporary role opportunity with possible opportunity for ongoing employment. The Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) upholds NSW children and young people’s right to be safe by overseeing, regulating and monitoring organisations and individuals that provide services to children. We are guided by our values of integrity, trust, service, accountability, respect and empathy. The Office of the Children’s Guardian is embarking on a project to review and update its governance and risk framework. This is a critical project given the organisation’s responsibilities to regulate and oversee organisations when it comes to child safety. The Ministerial Inquiry into the workplace culture the OCG was tabled in Parliament on Wednesday 10 September 2025. Recommendation 13 relates to strengthening the effectiveness of OCG’s governance framework and arrangements. We are seeking a candidate who can review current arrangements, identify improvement opportunities and help implement change. The role will manage the OCG’s governance, risk and assurance functions, and plays a key role in leading the internal audit function. The role will work closely with the Director Corporate Services and Executive Office.

Requirements

  • Proven track record in risk and governance (whether private or public sector)
  • Experience driving improvements, with the ability to work independently
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders to strengthen governance systems
  • Tertiary qualifications in business administration, governance or a relevant discipline, and/or extensive relevant workplace experience.
  • All roles within the OCG are required to have a current NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Employment at the OCG is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the review, development and implementation of OCG’s governance and risk framework.
  • Develop and deliver high quality governance, compliance and risk management activities, organisational monitoring and reporting, and secretariat services.
  • Maintain and improve existing OCG wide corporate frameworks, controls, policies and processes, monitoring and reporting in accordance with legislation, whole-of-government policy and business requirements.
  • Work with key internal stakeholders, the Audit and Risk Committee and external parties to deliver governance and compliance activities, including the internal audit program.
  • Provide advice and direction to the Children’s Guardian and Executive team on risk and governance matters, fostering a culture of collaboration and shared ownership.
