JOB SUMMARY: Conceptualize and manage interior design for new or renovated projects Resort Wide with Universal Creative/UPR international projects. Develop budget and implementation plan for design, construction and procurement. Direct, Manage, and monitor vendor and consultant progress throughout design and construction process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Four-year college or university in: Art, Interior Design, Environmental Design, Architecture, or related field required.
  • 5-10 years’ managerial experience required.
  • 5-10 years’ resort, hospitality, and theme park experience is required.
  • 10-15 years’ experience within commercial interior design field required.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret spread sheets.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to hand sketch/draw and produce constructible documents for fabrication/construction.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Interiors or Architecture preferred.
  • Interior Professional License to practice interior design preferred in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as Universal Creative representative and guardian of the preliminary and concept during the design process. Assures design integrity and keeps the process on course, by reviewing the consultants and vendors drawings, reviewing specifications for materials and furnishings to make sure product meets the high standards of Universal and the participating Joint Venture Partners. Directs and/or approves finished selections, materials, and plans/drawings from consultants and vendors. Signs and reviews every item included in the FF&E budget for quality assurance by referencing and comparing to the PO, then cross-referenced to the budget estimate to make sure it is in budget.
  • Serves as central contact person regarding the interior design on the project. Answers questions from consultants, contractors, and vendors regarding what they are designing, building, and the progress or resolution of specific issues.
  • Performs all phases of design by participating as member of in house creative team to develop the design direction for each individual interior project facility type. The preliminary/master planning design is documented through presentation materials with sketches and visual aids to communicate the intent and is then presented to the Universal Executives [and Partnership Executives on joint venture projects] for approval. Once approved, the following design phases will address spatial adjacencies, operational requirements, and construction, operational, and FFE budgets.
  • Develops and monitors budget beginning with the preliminary/master planning design phase. Outlines budget estimates created for construction and FF&E, to demonstrate feasibility of the design, test the allocation of funds, and verify that the interior design is financially feasible. Sets guidelines for materials used in specific locations, which is based on experience and operational guidelines. Oversees the RFP interior vendor bidding process recommends the selection vendors, reviews substitutions, approves, monitors the vendors work product to keep it within budget estimate established.
  • Prepares and presents interior designs for Universal Executive or Joint Venture Partnership. Reviews Consultants and vendor contracts prepared by contract department to ensure the consultant’s scope of work includes all aspects of work required and verifies the percentage of completion for billing purposes. Attends / participates in teamwork sessions.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
