Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Care, Chaplaincy, or a related field
  • Completion of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (minimum one unit; four units preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of spiritual or pastoral care experience in hospice, palliative care, healthcare, or a clinical setting
  • At least 1 year of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care
  • Ability to support individuals from diverse spiritual, cultural, and faith backgrounds
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Knowledge of Medicare Hospice Conditions of Participation

  • Board certification or eligibility for certification through a recognized professional chaplaincy organization preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and supervision for hospice spiritual care staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and maintain spiritual care programs aligned with hospice philosophy and patient-centered care.
  • Assess the spiritual needs of patients and families and integrate those needs into individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospice team to support holistic patient care.
  • Mentor, train, and evaluate chaplains to support professional development and competency.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of spiritual care services in the electronic medical record.
  • Support patients and families experiencing anticipatory grief and bereavement.
  • Coordinate with community clergy and other spiritual care providers to honor diverse beliefs and traditions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Assist with memorial services and other hospice events that support patients, families, and staff.
