About The Position

The Senior Safety Manager is responsible for all field safety functions necessary to support the MIC teams. The Senior Safety Manager is expected to be a key member of the training team, and working closely with Training Coordinator and Director SH&E. The Senior Safety Manager is expected to maintain effective communication with Divisional and project supervision regarding project safety. The Senior Safety Manager is expected to represent the safety department and our entire MIC organization to satisfy customer safety-related needs. The Senior Safety Manager shall act as the primary technical and leadership resource to our MIC team of field safety professionals. Location & Travel Details: This is a traveling position, up to 75% of the time, encompassing work sites throughout the US, and will include some overnight travel. A vehicle allowance will be provided. When overnight travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, OSH or a safety related field from accredited university desired
  • CHST or equivalent within 6 months of hire or appointment
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience (OSH & Training) and have demonstrated the ability to provide a high level of safety leadership to both management and craft workers
  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations for application in the company
  • Develop reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the public

Responsibilities

  • Drive MIC’s safety processes and programs.
  • Constantly emphasize involvement in the MIC safety process from all levels of management and craft.
  • Promote good safety leadership at all levels of our organization.
  • Set exemplary standards of ethics and stewardship of the company’s resources, support MIC’s safety philosophy, practice and goals, function as a team player and help to maintain good communication within the Safety Department
  • Assure that all projects have a written site safety plan at the outset of the project. Assist in development of the plan, if necessary, and review all such plans for completeness. Assist project management in the establishment of the safety program, including medical arrangements and an injury management plan
  • Maintain strong, effective communication with client representatives.
  • Facilitate regulatory visits and provide support for business units during regulatory inquiries
  • Assist in the management of emergency response incidents
  • Review, approve and assist MIC supervision in implementing corrective actions
  • Evaluate safety programs, issue recommendations, and implement changes
  • Drive consistency in our safety program across all projects.
  • Review and approve corrective actions related to incidents and near miss events.
  • Participate in tactical planning and support of corporate safety initiatives
  • Work with HR to manage workers’ compensation claims and return to work programs
  • Support project safety professionals with injury case management
  • Attend job kickoffs for projects to provide appropriate safety support at the earliest planning phase of each project
  • Assist the EHS Leadership in Interviewing and hiring experienced, effective safety project safety professionals.
  • Assure projects have the appropriate safety staffing and make staffing decisions with buy-in from the EHS Leadership
  • Keep the EHS Leadership apprised of upcoming project safety staffing needs and changes
  • Assist the EHS Leadership with annual performance assessments for safety team members
  • Maintain strong communications with site management, Vice Presidents and the EHS Leadership regarding compliance by project sites with the safety program and policies and actions taken to remedy any deficiencies
  • In the event a serious safety condition is identified during a site visit, assure that complete and appropriate corrective action has taken place before leaving the site, assume the authority to order discontinuance of work on a project, or area of a project, where such serious safety conditions cannot be immediately corrected
  • Inspect work for accuracy and compliance with the company's policies and procedures and take any corrective action needed
  • Assure that all projects are in full compliance with the company safety policies and all applicable federal and state regulations, including accurate and current record keeping, through frequent and ongoing on-site reviews of the project safety programs
  • Perform quarterly project leading indicators assessments to ensure key safety management systems are in use at each project in the region
  • Champion R4 program on each project
  • Implement the company environmental program and ensure weekly inspections are conducted as required
  • Understand environmental permitting regulations on the projects and measures to ensure compliance
  • Assure that front-line site supervisors understand their responsibilities within the safety program and that they are adequately prepared to carry out those duties by providing or arranging for orientation and training of newly hired or promoted supervisors
  • Assist project management in effectively managing occupational injuries to provide the highest levels of medical care for injured workers
  • Ensure all project sites have the proper quality and quantity of safety professionals assigned to the project
  • Champion the near miss reporting program
  • Develop and present training on a variety of subjects with or without Subject matter experts (SME’s)
  • Research training topics for development
  • Conduct and/or oversee all safety training programs for employees at all levels as the champion of the R4 program on each project
  • Participate as a member of the Safety Professionals Team
  • Provide training, mentoring and progressive career opportunity to safety professionals
  • Periodically attend the Corporate Safety Committee meeting as requested
  • Conducted or lead training in applicable OSH areas
  • Provide input and support to the EHS Leadership and Site Managers for performance evaluation of safety professionals
  • Assist and coordinate with the EHS Leadership in the selection and assignment of safety professionals with attention to proper experience, training and qualifications for the type of project to which they are being assigned
  • Assist the EHS Leadership and human resources in the identification and recruitment of qualified site safety personnel
  • Discuss by telephone or in person reductions in force of each safety team member
