About The Position

The main objective of this position is to manage the maintenance and safe operation of light and medium duty vehicles and container handling equipment for the Port of Virginia (POV).

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license; Transportation Worker Identification Credential; Technical Certification required.
  • Six years of relevant experience, with two years in a leadership capacity required. Bachelor’s degree in related field may be substituted for experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel) - High
  • Ability to prioritize work, procure parts, and manage units that are out of service - High
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory guidelines - High
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment to meet business needs - High

Responsibilities

  • Promotes safety awareness and ensures compliance with all security, safety (OSHA), and environmental regulations and policies within work areas at all times.
  • Develops and implements training programs on preventative and corrective maintenance methods
  • Conducts planning and improvement measures to ensure operational success.
  • Coordinates with maintenance directors in creating annual budgets for expected maintenance spending
  • Manages adherence to the maintenance budget. Minimizes operating costs by eliminating redundancies, refining processes, optimizing utilization of resources, and maintaining high productivity levels.
  • Hire maintenance labor at non-ILA facilities and hire warranty and non-warranty out of skill-set labor at ILA facilities. Ensures ongoing compliance to labor contracts, requirements, and agreements.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates repairs and parts procurement to ensure maintenance teams have the resources, supplies, and tools necessary for daily activities. This includes setting appropriate stocking levels of parts stored in the satellite store rooms, based on equipment needs.
  • Provides necessary information to facilitate the GovDeals scrap/sale program.
  • Manages relationships with ILA partners and outside vendors working within workspace. Ensures compliance to labor contracts and agreements. Ensures that disciplinary actions are consistent with company policies.
  • Manages Assistant Vehicle Managers and Vehicle Maintenance Technicians / Mechanics in day-to-day operations. Promotes a team-based culture and provide ongoing feedback. Coaches team members through issues or escalations. Measures and evaluates performance of team members. Implements technical training for both and/or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Oversees scheduling and work execution and provides technical expertise and insight for repairs. Prioritizes maintenance, repair work, and processes and assesses staffing levels to ensure adequate number of workers are available and scheduled to fulfill maintenance and repair needs.
  • Communicates with Operations Manager as necessary to determine priorities of equipment needs.
  • Facilitates maintenance as needed through outside vendors.
  • Coordinates with Operations to ensure proper manning during atypical working hours.
  • Manages environmental program of maintenance facilities and equipment.
  • Uses historical data to develop estimated costs for repairs completed by outside vendors.
  • Assists with escalation with vendors when needed by Assistant Managers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • The Port of Virginia is a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week, 365-day-a-year operation, schedule and location may vary based on the needs of the operation.
