It is important to understand the roles and responsibilities for each level at Noble and what is needed to appropriately serve our clients and ensure the success of Noble. This document describes the duties of an individual in a Manager position for work on examinations. Note that employees may be assigned responsibilities above or below that of their title in given situations. In addition to the duties of a Senior Associate, the tasks below reflect the activities a Manager would normally be expected to demonstrate in order to deliver a successful product to the client (note: “supervisor” is a generic term that can be anyone who a Manager reports to in an engagement, if the Manager is a staff member that is likely the EIC and if the Manager is acting as the EIC it is the Supervisor)

Responsibilities

  • Able to function as an EICs on multiple small/medium sized examinations concurrently.
  • Work with the supervisor to ensure that an early, proactive project plan is in place for the engagement.
  • Work with supervisor to review and determine appropriateness of the team.
  • Perform administrative functions as assigned.
  • Take ownership and accountability for projects.
  • Manage deadlines, budgets, and staff.
  • Understand the expectations and concerns of the insurance department. Communicate effectively in a timely manner with them on issues as they develop as appropriate. Anticipate questions/reactions and prepare appropriate responses. Work closely with supervisor to manage and coordinate such communication.
  • Provide insurance department contacts useful, actionable information and guidance as appropriate.
  • Proactively communicate with Noble team members, supervisor, and insurance department staff as appropriate, regarding the status of a project, including budgets.
  • Build solid relationships with the insurance department contacts, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate and conduct meetings and interviews with insurance department and company contacts to ensure effective examination progress.
  • Develop reasonable initial scopes, timelines, and budgets, in working with supervisor as necessary.
  • Communicate, in advance, any concerns regarding staffing sufficiency and appropriateness with supervisor.
  • Manage project to ensure appropriate progress is being made regarding budget and timelines.
  • Prepare regular status reports for the insurance department and Noble in accordance with state requirements, as appropriate.
  • As an EIC, review all workpapers for accuracy and completeness. Follow up with team members on additional work as needed.
  • Ensure all workpapers have a minimum of one level of review and key workpapers are reviewed by the Supervisor.
  • Ensure Noble standards and policies are adhered to in projects to support compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Communicate any concerns regarding the appropriateness of the approach to the engagement and work plan and work with supervisor on strategies to adapt as necessary.
  • Ensure appropriate subject matter expertise is obtained as needed.
  • Delegate responsibilities as appropriate to ensure examination progress and development of team members.
  • Conduct weekly internal status meetings with team as appropriate to ensure progress is on track with budgets and deadlines.
  • Be aware of and address any issues related to the work of specialists (IT, Reinsurance, Investments, Actuarial) on your projects.
  • Review work and reports of specialists to ensure information is properly communicated in a manner consistent with your understanding.
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding potential opportunities for additional or related work that adds value.
  • Foster a relationship with insurance department contact and get to know others within the Department.
  • Evaluate and communicate issues and significant deficiencies to supervisor and through Project Performance reviews.
  • Address training issues/opportunities throughout engagement.
  • Perform a project debriefing at the conclusion of each examination.
  • Keep informed of current hot topics through continuing education for insurance company operations, examinations, NAIC changes, and emerging issues.
  • Ensure all workpapers and deliverables, including conclusions, are accurate, professional, applicable, understandable, and useful.
  • Provide feedback that will allow the insurance department contacts to be better informed as a result of the examination/analysis process. Work closely with supervisor to manage this process.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor regarding improvements on similar, future projects.
