About The Position

Maryland Hillel is seeking a visionary Managing Director to serve as a senior leader driving organizational excellence, operational effectiveness, and student engagement for one of the nation’s most dynamic Jewish campus communities. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Managing Director is responsible for the daily operations of Maryland Hillel and works in close partnership with the Executive Director. This role is central to setting vision, building high-performing systems, empowering staff, and aligning cross-functional teams to deliver transformative student experiences as Maryland Hillel continues to grow in scale, impact, and complexity. Maryland Hillel serves one of the largest and most vibrant Jewish campus communities in the country. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • A passion for working with students and fostering their Jewish growth by building deep, personal connections
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in nonprofit, higher education, or a mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff and supporting performance and accountability.
  • Experience across multiple functional areas, such as programming, operations, finance, and facilities.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience supporting organizational operations at scale and translating strategy into execution preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set vision and drive the development and execution of Maryland Hillel’s programmatic and engagement strategy, which values breadth, depth, and belonging.
  • Translate mission and vision into measurable goals, robust systems, and impact-driven metrics that promote student connection, leadership development, and community impact.
  • Cultivate a student-facing culture that reflects collaboration, creativity, and joy in Jewish life.
  • Align workflow across student life, finance and operations, facility, and development teams to focus on strategic priorities and achieve goals.
  • Oversee the day-to-day internal operations of Maryland Hillel.
  • Implement and maintain operational systems and processes to support a growing, increasingly complex organization.
  • Oversee the opening and operation of the new state-of-the-art 38,000 square foot facility, which serves as the home to kosher dining on campus.
  • Supervise and mentor senior staff to achieve excellence through goal-setting, coaching, and performance management.
  • Lead staff meetings and ensure clear communication, follow-through, and operational consistency across departments.
  • Create a structure and build out appropriate staffing for the new facility.
  • Create an environment where staff are supported, aligned, and equipped to respond thoughtfully to student and community needs.
  • Partner with development staff to engage board leadership and committees as appropriate. Prepare operational materials and support alignment between staff, board, and partners.
  • Partner with the Executive Director on staffing structure, workflow, and personnel planning.
  • Partner with leadership on budgeting, expense monitoring, and financial controls.
  • Monitor spending and support responsible resource allocation.
  • Oversee facilities, systems, and infrastructure planning.
  • Represent Maryland Hillel as a senior leader on campus and across the community.
  • In the absence of the Executive Director, serve as the lead professional to make decisions consistent with the mission and vision of the organization.
  • Provide steady leadership and sound judgment during periods of change or crisis, ensuring continuity, clear communication, and effective response.
