About The Position

The Managing Pharmacist is responsible for the overall leadership, daily operations, compliance, and clinical oversight of the pharmacy. This role ensures that all medication management processes meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards while maintaining exceptional quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. The Managing Pharmacist provides direct supervision to pharmacy staff, oversees medication storage and handling, and supports clinical teams with pharmaceutical expertise.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy).
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of operation.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of pharmacy experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, medication safety, and clinical best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience managing a pharmacy, health center, or clinical medication program.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards
  • Experience with Smartsheet, EHRs, or other medication management systems.
  • Certification in Medication Therapy Management (MTM) or related specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
  • Oversee daily pharmacy operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant medication dispensing and inventory management.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain pharmacy workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Lead pharmacy team scheduling, workload distribution, and performance management.
  • Ensure accurate, timely ordering and restocking of medications, supplies, and controlled substances.
  • Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure full compliance with all federal and state pharmacy regulations, licensing requirements, and accreditation standards (e.g., Board of Pharmacy, DEA, BNDD and CMEA).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for controlled substances, inventories, audits, and medication temperature monitoring.
  • Lead and respond to compliance audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
  • Ensure proper storage, temperature control, and handling of all medications.
  • Clinical Oversight
  • Provide clinical expertise to support prescribing providers, clinical staff, and care teams.
  • Evaluate medication profiles for appropriateness, drug interactions, contraindications, and dosing accuracy.
  • Guide implementation of medication-related clinical protocols and safety initiatives.
  • Support patient counseling and medication education initiatives as required.
  • Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
  • Lead or participate in QA activities, including medication error analysis, risk assessments, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Monitor pharmacy performance metrics and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to enhance patient safety and operational quality.
  • Team Development & Education
  • Train, mentor, and support pharmacists, technicians, and pharmacy interns.
  • Provide ongoing education regarding medication standards, policy updates, and safety practices.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and high-quality service.
  • Collaboration & Communication
  • Serve as the primary pharmacy liaison to clinical operations, QA/Compliance teams, and organizational leadership.
  • Communicate pharmacy updates, changes in regulations, and process improvements to staff.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to organizational initiatives.
