Manufacturing Engineering Manager

MytraBrisbane, CA

About The Position

Mytra is evolving from a prototype-focused warehouse to a proper, industrialized manufacturing operation. We are looking for an experienced and energetic Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead this transformation. You will be responsible for designing and deploying the "machine that builds the machine"—architecting the factory, processes, and team that will produce our bots and structures at scale. In this leadership role, you will bridge the gap between Hardware Engineering and full-scale production. You will own the General Assembly (GA) strategy, ensuring that as we scale to meet exceptional customer demand, our manufacturing remains lean, agile, and high-quality.

Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years of practical experience in manufacturing, with at least 2+ years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency in CAD (OnShape/SolidWorks/CATIA) for equipment design and AutoCAD for layout planning. Deep knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and robotics integration.
  • Strong manufacturing fundamentals in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt); ability to apply these tools practically in a high-growth startup environment.
  • Proven Track Record: You have successfully brought a complex mechatronic product from concept to mass production and have experience laying out a factory from scratch.

Nice To Haves

  • Startup Mindset & Adaptability: You thrive on the uncertainty of early-stage projects. You view mistakes as data points, possess the humility to pivot quickly, and maintain a high sense of urgency when resolving delays to keep critical infrastructure projects on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Factory & Line Design: Plan and design manufacturing layouts and facilities for the assembly and fabrication of robotic systems. Transition Mytra from manual "stall builds" to optimized, scalable production lines.
  • Process Definition & Scalability: Architect the foundational "Manufacturing Record" by defining sequence of operations, standardizing time studies, and developing robust process maps. You will transform tribal knowledge into scalable, repeatable manufacturing processes that can be deployed across multiple production shifts or secondary facilities.
  • DFM/DFA Leadership: Partner with Hardware Engineering to define requirements and influence product design, ensuring our robots are optimized for high-efficiency assembly, fabrication, and plastics processing.
  • Strategic "Make vs. Buy" Analysis: Conduct rigorous trade-off studies to determine whether to manufacture components and assemblies in-house or leverage external partners. You will evaluate total cost of ownership, lead times, quality risks, and intellectual property considerations to optimize Mytra’s vertical integration strategy, and potential to work with a CM on their line design/bringup
  • Equipment & Tooling: Lead the design, procurement, and installation of specialized assembly equipment, jigs, fixtures, and automated assembly aids.
  • Capital Equipment & Lifecycle Management: Lead the specification, ROI analysis, and procurement of high-value capital equipment (e.g., robotic work-cells, automated storage systems, and EOL testers). You will own the full vendor relationship, from generating Technical Requirement Documents (TRDs) to overseeing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and final site integration.
  • Root Cause Analysis & Troubleshooting: Lead the resolution of complex production issues using Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., 8D, DMAIC, 5 Whys). Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to eliminate recurring bottlenecks and quality escapes.
  • Operational Excellence: Propose and lead continuous process improvement initiatives. Use industrial engineering analysis to ensure cycle times and takt times meet our aggressive scaling goals.
  • Supply Chain Integration: Work closely with suppliers and our engineers to develop manufacturing technologies (e.g., roll forming, stamping) and ensure seamless material flow into General Assembly.
  • Team Leadership: Build and mentor a team of Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians. Manage project timelines, budgets, and the ramp-up from concept to mass production
