About The Position
We are partnering with a well-established OEM manufacturer seeking a hands-on Senior Manufacturing Operations Manager to lead daily plant operations within a high-mix, low-volume machine shop environment. This role oversees 30+ direct reports across CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, grinding, tooling, maintenance, and quality. This is a floor-driven leadership position that is not a desk role.
Requirements
- 5+ years manufacturing leadership in a machine shop environment
- Experience managing 30+ direct reports
- Strong understanding of CNC machining (mills & lathes – no programming required)
- Union environment experience
- Experience overseeing fabrication, welding, and maintenance teams
- Hands-on leadership style with strong floor presence
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (experience considered in lieu)
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate all manufacturing operations across machining and fabrication departments
- Develop and execute production schedules in collaboration with planning
- Oversee CNC machining operations (mills and lathes) and support troubleshooting when needed
- Manage sheet metal fabrication, welding, and tooling performance
- Drive KPI accountability across safety, quality, delivery, and productivity
- Conduct Gemba walks and lead Lean improvement initiatives
- Oversee hiring, performance management, and disciplinary action
- Manage union workforce relations and maintain compliance with labor agreements
- Develop preventive maintenance strategies with maintenance leadership
- Align cross-functional teams including quality, engineering, and maintenance
