Internship Overview Powell’s 10-week paid internship program offers college students hands-on experience, professional training, and the opportunity to make an impact through a meaningful project aligned with your field of study. As a Research and Development Engineering Intern, you’ll focus on designing and optimizing indicators for high-speed mechanisms, gaining valuable skills in a dynamic, collaborative environment. Project Focus Intern Project: Deliverable 1: Produce reliability data for the PowlVac product line, using framework from industrial engineering and manufacturing disciplines, accounting for IEE 493-2007, and IEEE 2006 Series. Other standards may be used. Deliverable 2: Conduct review and analysis of test data of 38 kV product line to support product compliance. Expected Deliverables: Technical report with raw data, and reliability data must include as a minimum: MTBF, number of failures per unit per year, downtime hours, availability, mean time to repair, etc. Perform analysis and present results in text and datasets with curves, pie charts, bar charts, etc. Technical report on state of the 38kV product line testing database. Organization in better format. Analysis of met and required ratings. Raw data, enhanced data, create enhanced database. How does this project benefit Powell or your functional area? Several clients have requested Powell for its equipment reliability data. Powell has product lines that are superior in the industry and the calculation of the indexes can benefit for marketing purposes and to show the operational advantage of the product, beyond numbers from competitors. The overall performance is known but it has never been measured. Powell has experienced a rapid growth in selling 38kV products and the certification and testing database requires organization, reclassification, enhancement, and an analysis of needed ratings and re-testing in the future. Who We’re Looking For We seek motivated, curious, and driven students with the following qualifications: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. Rising Junior or Senior continuing studies in Fall 2027. Minimum 3.0 GPA and strong academic standing. Team player with strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills. Self-starter with a dependable, can-do attitude.
