About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing & Test Engineer to support various initiatives within our Advanced Technology team. These high-profile initiatives are aimed at showcasing next-generation technologies through the building of prototype and demonstration products. As a member of the Advanced Technology group, you will be responsible for working with cross-functional teams to demonstrate future technologies. You will work with customers to help identify areas that the Advanced Technology group can help to improve customer performance metrics, support the generation of future projects and derisk future technologies. In addition, this individual will help identify key suppliers, support location decisions, solve complex challenges, and be involved throughout the life cycle of various R&D projects. What will your typical day look like? Collaborate with internal teams and key stakeholders to understand performance needs and identify opportunities where advanced technologies can deliver value. Support the development of designs, build plans, and processes for demonstration prototypes. Estimate production times, material needs, and associated costs to support project planning and decision‑making. Communicate project status, including schedule and cost updates, to management at regular intervals. Provide input on manufacturing methods, tooling, and equipment selections to meet design requirements and cost targets. Take a hands‑on approach to troubleshooting and resolving issues during prototype builds and testing activities. Ensure the manufacturability of prototype components and sub‑assemblies through proactive design and process review. Identify manufacturing and testing risks and contribute to mitigation planning efforts. Assist the manufacturing team by offering technical guidance throughout build and test phases. Ensure adherence to relevant safety standards, procedures, and best practices. Maintain accurate documentation, including build logs, test plans, test results, engineering changes, and lessons learned. Coordinate with suppliers, fabrication shops, and cross‑functional internal teams to resolve technical challenges. Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, test methods, and overall project efficiency. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of engineering experience, preferably in heavy industry.
  • Ability to go into the field to conduct tests in various settings and conditions.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Proven project management skills, with an ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Willingness to travel to customers and vendors up to 25% of the time. Most will be same day travel within 2 hours of employee’s base location.

Nice To Haves

  • 3D CAD experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with locomotives, rail vehicles, or heavy equipment a plus.
