Wherever there is a need for motive power, EnerSys offers the perfect energy solution.  Job PurposeThe Electrical Test Technician role is focused on hands-on testing of batteries, and occasionally chargers or related devices. The primary job function is electrical product testing following standard procedures and written instructions. This requires physical handling of batteries, operation of: computerized battery test systems, power supplies, data acquisition units, and associated equipment; and creation of reports of results using Microsoft Excel, Word and other software as needed. Other job responsibilities may include mechanical testing of batteries or battery materials; lab equipment preventative maintenance, calibration, and minor repair; and packaging of sample batteries or test equipment for shipment as needed.  Qualified candidates should be detail-oriented and have a solid understanding of DC electricity and general electrical safety.

Requirements

  • Good problem solving and visualization skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency using office software including MS Teams, Word, Outlook, and Access,
  • Proficiency using MS Excel to analyze data and create reports, graphs and charts.
  • Solid understanding of basic principles and terminology of DC electricity and electrical measurement
  • Solid understanding of AC and DC electrical safety
  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and 2 years previous work experience with lead-acid batteries, battery chargers, DC electricity, and/or electrical measurement/data acquisition devices  (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field, such as Electronics, Electrical Utility, Physical Sciences, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering; or 3 years of experience in a related discipline.
  • Previous certification on operating material handling equipment, PLC programming, or calibration certification is beneficial, but not required.
  • Experience using AI tools such as Copilot or Chat GPT to aid in data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience in lead-acid battery teardown and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Primary duty is to independently perform electrical testing on batteries following written laboratory procedures with minimal supervision, working closely with other members of the team when needed.
  • Position, connect, and disconnect batteries and cells.
  • Operate electrical instrumentation to measure the performance of batteries, which may include use of software packages specific to equipment, monitoring devices, or other products.
  • Generate accurate technical reports for use of engineering groups.
  • Ensure that testing is started and completed on time by maintaining a flexible schedule and practicing good time management.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing carried out and data collected in accordance with relevant OP’s and manager’s directions.
  • Package scrap batteries/cells for shipment to disposal facility.
  • Assist Metrology with calibration and coordinate with Maintenance for lab equipment repairs as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Operate battery-powered equipment for material handling.
