About The Position

Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled and experienced Marine Insulators to install, repair, and remove insulation systems on piping, machinery, bulkheads, overheads, and structural components aboard Navy and commercial vessels. Marine Insulators will cut, fit, fabricate, and secure insulation materials, apply lagging and protective coverings, and ensure all work meets NAVSEA and shipyard installation standards. This position requires strong shipboard experience, precise workmanship, and the ability to work safely in confined spaces, elevated areas, and industrial marine environments. This position supports shipyard projects throughout the Hampton Roads region of Virginia , including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown. Per diem may be available on select projects depending on contract requirements and travel distance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of marine or shipyard insulation experience
  • Strong proficiency in cutting, fitting, and installing a variety of insulation materials
  • Ability to read and apply drawings, templates, and blueprints
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools and power tools used for insulation fabrication and installation
  • Must pass background screening and meet shipyard access requirements (DBIDS when required)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding marine environments
  • Reliable transportation, strong attendance, and ability to work early mornings, overtime, nights, weekends, and inclement weather
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team

Nice To Haves

  • Experience applying insulation according to NAVSEA standards
  • Prior experience insulating Navy vessels, auxiliaries, or commercial ships
  • OSHA-10 Maritime
  • Ability to wear a respirator when required for dust-heavy operations, cutting tasks, hot-work support, or confined-space entry

Responsibilities

  • Install insulation on piping, HVAC systems, chill water, potable water, steam systems, machinery, and structural surfaces
  • Apply fiberglass, rubber, calcium silicate, hullboard, Tempmatt, fiberglass cloth/tape, adhesives, and protective coverings
  • Cut, shape, and fit insulation materials using band saws, knives, wire cutters, stud guns, and other power tools
  • Apply lagging cloth, vapor barriers, wraps, and coverings according to specifications
  • Remove damaged or outdated insulation and prepare surfaces for new installation
  • Survey, measure, and design proper insulation layouts for systems and components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, templates, and shipyard insulation standards
  • Work in tanks, voids, bilges, machinery spaces, overheads, and other confined or elevated shipboard areas
  • Maintain tool control, housekeeping, and safe work practices in all work environments
