About The Position

The Master Planner serves as the central planning authority for all production scheduling, material requirements, and supply chain coordination activities supporting Naval defense contracts. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining the Master Production Schedule (MPS) across internal and external manufacturing operations, ensuring on-time delivery to government and prime contractor customers in full compliance with applicable contractual, regulatory, and quality requirements (ISO, DFARS, FAR, ITAR). The ideal candidate is a detail-driven, analytically strong professional with demonstrated experience in a defense manufacturing or government contracting environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree.
  • 5+ years of production planning, master scheduling, or supply chain experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with MRP/ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JobBoss, Epicor, or similar); high proficiency in data extraction and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of defense contracting requirements including FAR, DFARS, and government quality standards (ISO 9001, Mil-Spec).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with scheduling or planning tools (Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to customers and senior leadership.
  • U.S. citizenship required (government contract requirement).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, publish, and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for all active Naval defense contracts, balancing customer delivery requirements against internal capacity and material availability.
  • Translate contract delivery schedules, engineering BOMs, and manufacturing routings into actionable production work orders and shop floor priorities.
  • Drive S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) participation, providing planning input to cross-functional leadership reviews.
  • Identify schedule conflicts, capacity constraints, and material shortfalls; develop and execute recovery plans to protect on-time delivery.
  • Maintain schedule visibility to support strategic capacity and workforce planning decisions.
  • Own and administer the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process within the company ERP system; ensure data integrity of BOMs, routings, lead times, and planning parameters.
  • Execute MRP runs and review action messages; drive timely resolution of exception conditions including past-due orders, over/under-allocations, and excess material.
  • Maintain accurate inventory planning parameters (safety stock, reorder points, min/max levels) for both raw materials and purchased components.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to incorporate ECOs and drawing revisions into production plans without disrupting active schedules.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders for raw materials and outside processing (heat treat, plating, NDT, etc.) as required.
  • Proactively follow up with vendors on open orders; expedite critical material to prevent schedule impacts and escalate persistent supplier performance issues.
  • Track and report supplier on-time delivery and quality performance; participate in supplier corrective action processes as required.
  • Evaluate supplier lead time and capacity to inform make-vs-buy decisions and sourcing strategy for new contract awards.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with DFARS, FAR, and contract flow-down requirements, including traceability and country-of-origin obligations.
  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for delivery status on awarded contracts; coordinate with Program Management and Production to maintain accurate customer-facing delivery commitments.
  • Prepare and distribute delivery status reports, schedule variance analyses, and recovery plans to customers, prime contractors, and government representatives as required.
  • Process customer-driven schedule changes, urgent requirements, and over-and-above work requests; assess impact and communicate feasibility with supporting data.
  • Develop and maintain production performance dashboards tracking key metrics: schedule attainment, on-time delivery, WIP turns, past-due backlog, and material availability.
  • Report weekly and monthly production metrics to leadership; present trends, root cause analyses, and corrective actions for adverse variances.
  • Continuously improve planning processes, tools, and reporting through data analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
