About The Position

The Material Handler (Facilities Maintenance) is responsible for supporting daily production and facility operations by safely operating a forklift, handling materials, and maintaining cleanliness throughout the shop floor. This role plays a key part in ensuring CNC machining operations run smoothly by delivering parts, managing scrap materials, and assisting with general building maintenance.

  • Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain one.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a Material Handler or in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with CNC shop environments a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties and operates machinery and equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment.
  • Responsible for recording location of inventory and reporting shortages.
  • Locates materials and/or supplies by pulling and verifying materials listed on production orders, pick lists, and shippers to prepare for shipping.
  • Contributes to the orderly operation of stock and/or materials area.
  • Moves levers and presses pedals to drive truck and control movement of lifting apparatus.
  • Positions forks / lifting platforms and transports loads to designated areas.
  • Unloads and stacks material by raising and lowering lifting device.
  • Utilizes overhead cranes for rigging (i.e., moving, securing a load).
  • Receives material and enters paperwork from suppliers.
  • Creates shippers and pulls loads for shipments to customers.
  • Inventories materials on work floor and the shipping dock.
  • Weighs materials or products and records weight on tags and labels.
  • Loads and unloads materials on or off pallets, skids or lifting devices.
  • Loads and unloads customer freight and empty containers.
  • Loads and unloads flatbeds and cargo vans.
  • Responsible for tagging incoming and outgoing freight.
  • Prepares orders and stages orders for delivery.
  • Organizes materials in department as necessary.
  • Completes safety and operational checks daily (lubricates truck, recharges batteries, fills fuel tank, replaces liquified gas tank, etc.).
  • Able to identify and categorize equipment and tools in non-working areas.
  • Assist with building maintenance and housekeeping duties.
  • Deliver tool trucks and parts with a flatbed truck to plants in and outside of Michigan, with occasional overnight travel.
  • Operate forklift (up to 13,000 lb. capacity) in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Make deliveries or pick-ups when needed.
  • Responsible for the removal of departmental trash and dumping steel and aluminum scrap for pick up.
  • Compact and bundle cardboard for recycling.
  • Sort and tag incoming machine parts and components.
  • Operate a forklift to transport materials, parts, and supplies to CNC operators and designated production areas.
  • Clean debris and remove chips from CNC machines to prepare for upcoming jobs.
  • Collect, sort, and properly dispose of scrap materials and trash from production areas.
  • Assist with general building and grounds maintenance, including light repairs, cleaning, and housekeeping tasks.
  • Pick up parts and materials as needed and ensure all incoming freight is properly tagged and identified.
  • Support maintenance personnel with facility upkeep and organization of work areas.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, equipment operating procedures, and company policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support production and facility operations.
