Job Overview: The Material Handler is responsible for loading and unloading trucks, as well as moving materials within or near the plant to store inventory, supply production lines, or transport necessary materials and supplies. This role ensures materials are handled safely, accurately, and efficiently to support production and shipping operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment; experience as a material handler/forklift operator preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to interpret procedures, quality specifications, and production records.
  • Ability to report data both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to lift or move 50–100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Read shipping/receiving paperwork or follow verbal instructions to obtain and move materials or containers.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed according to work orders and clarify instructions if needed.
  • Secure lifting attachments to materials and transport them from storage or work sites to designated areas.
  • Stack, assemble, and band materials into bundles.
  • Load and unload materials onto/from pallets, trays, racks, or shelves and attach identifying tags or labels.
  • Unload trucks, count units, and move materials to storage areas.
  • Load trucks, count units, and secure loads with strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent damage during transit.
  • Complete and sign shipping and receiving paperwork.
  • Record quantities, weights, and units of materials moved on daily production sheets.
  • Lift objects manually or using pallet jacks and forklifts; maintain forklifts and ensure they are charged.
  • Keep work areas clean, orderly, and report unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure plant labeling requirements are followed and all chemicals are properly labeled and managed.
  • Recommend improvements to material handling processes and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
