About The Position

Valmont Industries is currently seeking Material Handlers for a Second Shift position (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday–Friday) at our Coatings Site in Miami. This is an individual‑contributor role responsible for receiving, unloading, and storing incoming product loads, as well as inspecting finished products for damage or defects. The incumbent will operate forklifts, cranes, and other material‑handling equipment to move materials throughout the facility. Additional responsibilities include identifying materials being loaded and unloaded, creating tags for unloaded products, taking notes and photos, and entering that information into the computer system. The selected candidate will also inspect galvanized products to ensure a high‑quality finish and make recommendations to address any damage or defects identified. This role requires regular interaction with team members and truck drivers, coordination of special handling needs resulting from inspections, and strict adherence to all safety procedures, including the proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 2nd shift Base Hours: 3:00pm-11:30pm Eligible for: Monthly Attendance bonus $200 and Monthly individual target bonus

Requirements

  • High school.
  • 2 years relevant experience
  • Ability to work with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts, cranes and other material handling machines.
  • Ability to ensure that products meet quality standards
  • Ability to bundle, crate, box, and wrap products to be shipped
  • Ability to load a truck
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently throughout a shift

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years’ experience operating a forklift or other machines in a professional environment

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts with the capacity to move up to 22,000 lbs. of material on and off of flatbed trailers, crane and other material handling equipment.
  • Communicating potential problems or needs with material to the Lead or Supervisor
  • Inspect incoming material for proper venting and hanging.
  • Must be able to identify coated material.
  • Inspect galvanized material to ensure it meets the quality standards, reject material that does not meet quality standards, and coordinate special handling for this material
  • Read tags, bills of lading, and shipping and receiving papers
  • Verify tags on incoming products with details including piece count and finished product packaging
  • Move pieces of steel and other material up to 50 pounds by hand from different locations in the plant and yard
  • Operate small hand tools including tape measures, micrometers, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist in area housekeeping and clean up
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Stand 90% of a shift and work outside in extreme weather conditions
  • Communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • High awareness for safety
