About The Position

Alma School District is actively seeking an experienced, talented and dynamic individual to join our highly successful and progressive middle school. Our goals and objectives for the Mathematics Program includes growing the mindset and interest level of K-12 students regarding math knowledge, skill development and application of skills. The successful candidate will ultimately encourage students to discover and learn math skills through our K-12 mathematics curriculum - Illustrative Mathematics. Our ultimate goal is to produce student problem solvers and prepare students for their future career and life beyond high school. The candidate will also devote his or her energies and efforts toward learning experiences designed to fulfill students’ intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.

Requirements

  • Holds or is able to secure Arkansas teaching license, specifically in 4-8 mathematics
  • Has a passion for teaching and learning mathematics concepts

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school mathematics grades 6-8, utilizing course guidelines that are aligned with Arkansas teaching/learning standards and other designated district curriculum standards
  • Develop and study curriculum lesson plans that support conceptual understanding.
  • Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, other available technology in the understanding of mathematical algorithms
  • Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
  • Evaluate each student’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills
  • Utilize graphing calculators and other technological tools to deepen student learning/understanding of mathematics
  • Communicates with parents and other personnel regarding student mastery and progress.
  • Supervise students in and out-of-classroom during the assigned work day
  • Maintain professional competence; participate in curriculum development and Professional Learning Communities
  • Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematics teams and other faculty committees
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in their evaluation and professional growth plan
  • Creates a classroom environment and lessons that are conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students (including differentiation and engagement)
  • Displays effective classroom management and incorporates engaging student activities
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
