About The Position

At Veritas Prep, Middle School Math Teachers play a critical role in ensuring all students develop strong mathematical reasoning, and academic confidence needed to thrive in high school, college, and beyond. As a Math Teacher, you will co-advise two classes of approximately 27 students each sharing responsibility for both academic achievement and a strong, positive classroom culture with your colleagues that teach other subject areas. You will plan and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction in math that ensures every student—regardless of background—can access grade-level standards, build conceptual understanding, and apply their learning to complex problems. In partnership with your co-advisor, you will cultivate a joyful, structured classroom community where students of all identities feel safe, valued, challenged, and supported to meet ambitious goals. Veritas Prep is a public, tuition-free school in Springfield that prepares students in grades 5 through 12 to compete, achieve, and succeed in college and beyond. Veritas Prep accelerates every student’s path to college and career by helping them set a strong academic foundation in middle school and guaranteeing access to college classes and college prep support in our wall-to-wall Early College high school. At Veritas Prep, we are not only breaking down barriers to college access but also providing the tools students need to persist through college and prepare for a successful career. Our middle school program has been serving students in Springfield since 2012 and our scholars are supported by skilled, dedicated, and diverse teachers. Scholars learn important academic habits and are challenged to achieve at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally, setting them up for success as they enter our high school. Our Early College high school program, in partnership with STCC and Worcester State University, prepares students to earn high-impact college degrees, saving students up to two years’ time in college and thousands of dollars. Students can earn up to an associate degree for free, and the general studies associate degree from STCC means students enter as JUNIORS at any Massachusetts public college or university after high school graduation. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Massachusetts DESE Elementary Licensure Preferred, or eligibility to achieve Highly Qualified status within one year of employment, demonstrated by:
  • passing score on the Communications and Literacy (Reading and Writing) MTEL and
  • passing score on the Elementary, Math or Middle School Mathematics MTEL or equivalent, and/or,
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement
  • Current authorization to work in the United States – a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement school-wide routines and systems that create consistency, maximize learning time, and support a focused, orderly environment
  • Deliver High Quality Instructional Materials in Math (Fishtank Math) that enable students to develop strong mathematical thinking skills.
  • Collaborate closely with your math team to internalize curriculum, strengthen instructional materials in response to student data, and align on best practices.
  • Use student data to drive instructional decisions, provide targeted support/interventions, and accelerate growth during class, daily intervention block, and daily tutoring
  • Teach a daily seminar block focused on college and career readiness, including goal-setting, self-advocacy, collaboration, and responsible decision-making.
  • Reinforce social-emotional skills by intentionally embedding them into classroom instruction, routines, and daily interactions with students.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and actively communicate and partner with families to support student success
  • Center inclusive, culturally responsive practices that affirm students’ identities and promote belonging and high expectations for all
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and school leaders to problem-solve, support students, and contribute to a strong team culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your school Principal and/or manager
