About The Position

Assists Lead Meat Cutter in the processing of all cuts of beef, lamb and pork products and is responsible for ordering and maintaining production schedule. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

Requirements

  • As a retail grocer, we operate 7 days/week and 365 days/year. Our in-store positions are likely to include evening, weekend, and holiday shifts per the needs of the business.
  • Must complete and maintain any required food and work safety trainings/certifications
  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred, however butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy, dating and government regulations in regards to tare weights and COOL Act.
  • Works with Lead Meat Cutter to ensure all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed in accordance to company standards.
  • Fills in and supports cutting, ordering, inventory and other work as needed in the absence of the Lead Meat Cutter.
  • Supports in the ordering of meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Stocks, rotates and faces cases. Adheres to Merch standards, category schematics, quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains awareness of industry trends, current ads, promotions, holidays and event. Implements plans for weekly ads, events and holidays.
  • Partners with Lead Meat Cutter to assess and adjust production needs and implement production schedule based on business needs. Maintains production levels and updates production guide.
  • Partners with department management team to maintain excellent department conditions, including appearance, cleanliness, signage, staffing and service levels.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count for accuracy and condition. Communicates any issues to management and merchandising team.
  • Assists customers with product selection. Shares product knowledge with customers. Makes recommendations and suggestions based on customer needs.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with products in department, including terminology, cuts, recommended product uses, vendor/supplier information and product labelling, with ability to continue learning.
  • Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Completes customer special orders thoroughly and provides follow-through as needed.
  • Maintains accurate pricing and signage that meet merchandising standards.
  • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers and credits.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • May participate in other activities, such as inventories, event planning, and ordering.
  • Notifies department manager or Manager On Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security or any other situation that may have an adverse effect on the store.
