Customer Service: Assist customers with product questions in prompt, courteous & friendly manner, referring questions to other staff if necessary. Answers questions accurately. Develop and maintain strong customer relations. Product Knowledge: Knowledgeable about most products. Continues to learn about new products. Product Presentation and Quality: Display and maintain in-stock conditions with a fresh and appealing appearance throughout the department. Maintain proper rotation of product in both retail display and backstock areas. Re-merchandize product within the retail display to minimize markdowns and shrink. Maintenance and Conditioning: Help maintain clean, sanitized work areas in accordance with company standards and health department regulations. Maintain personal cutlery (sharpening, cleaning, and storage when not in use.) Safety: Handle hazardous equipment carefully. Aware of presence of others when using such equipment. Equipment typically used includes the following: Power Band Saw Power meat grinder Cubed Steak Machine Hand Saw Cutlery Electronic Scales Heat-wrap machines Vacuum Packaging Machine Electric Stove Hydraulic Pallet Jack Use proper lifting techniques. Wear appropriate shoes. Mindful of potential hazards to customers and other employees and takes actions to correct hazards. Teamwork: Continue to work while greeting customers in a courteous manner. Does own share of grungy tasks as requested by manager. Looks at whole department when prioritizing tasks and completes these tasks in a timely fashion. Always conscientious about co-workers and works with the team for department efficiency. Give verbal communication to next shift if necessary or written notes if urgent. Comes to work on time. Takes breaks when appropriate and comes back from break on time. Provide clear direction for wrappers/clerks to complete their related tasks. Follow the direction of the department manager. Accountability: Accepts responsibility for own actions. Exemplifies honesty, integrity and ethics. Job Specific Functions: Cutting and processing beef, pork, lamb, poultry, seafood and related items for self-service retail sales in accordance with company standards and established protocols. Following proper sanitation procedures to maintain a clean well-organized workspace. Being aware of the company’s key points of difference. Performing meat wrapper/clerk responsibilities as needed to maintain peak department performance. (See meat wrapper/clerk job description.) Other tasks as directed by the department manager.

Requirements

  • Experience in cutting beef, pork, lamb, poultry and related items for retail sales in a self-service format preferred.
  • Experience in preparing fresh fish and related items for retail sales in a self-service format.
  • Desire to expand skills to include sausage-making and manufacturing specialty items.
  • Knowledge of retail cutting tests and how to perform them.
  • Basic knowledge of home preparation of meat and seafood items.
  • Proven experience in the safe use and cleaning of cutlery.
  • Proven experience in the safe operation and cleaning of power band saw, grinder, and cubed steak machine.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Team player attitude.
  • Ability to lift 80 lbs. employing safe lifting procedures.
