The City of Lee's Summit is seeking qualified applicants for a vehicle and equipment mechanic in the Fleet Division. Under the direction of the Shop Maintenance Supervisor and Fleet Manager, the Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs the city’s vehicle fleet. Inspects vehicles and performs maintenance and major overhauls on engines, transmissions, etc.

Requirements

  • Mechanic Tech l High school diploma or equivalent plus additional technical training in a related field required.
  • Associates degree in automotive technology or related field preferred.
  • ASE Certifications preferred.
  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement within 6 months required
  • State of Missouri Motor Vehicle Inspection License within 6 months required.
  • Mechanic Tech ll Meets all requirements of Mechanic Tech I plus Two (2) years experience in maintenance and repair on vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Master ASE Technician, OR all of the following; ASE T4 Truck Brakes, ASE T5 Truck suspension, EVT F1 Maintenance inspections F4 Apparatus Electrical
  • For the Mechanic Tech II to remain at Level 2, they must maintain and renew their certifications every 5 years. If one certification is lost from the Master Level or the EVT level they will move to pay code for Mechanic Tech I.
  • Mechanic Tech lll Meets all requirements of Mechanic Tech II plus Five (5) years experience in maintenance and repair on vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • ASE T4 Truck Brakes, ASE T5 Truck suspension, EVT F1 Maintenance inspections F4 Apparatus Electrical
  • Extensive knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and computer operation systems.
  • Working knowledge of EPA regulations and hazardous waste materials.
  • Extensive skills in the repair of a broad range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Knowledge of hand tools, shop equipment and computerized test equipment including the automotive and construction industry.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of emergency equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose problems and complete needed repairs.
  • Skills in operating the tools and equipment related to the shop operations, including, but not limited to, presses, jacks, lifts, lathes, VOM meters, computer scan and diagnostic systems and grinding equipment, and welding equipment.
  • Skills in computer operations, quality control, typing, and safety practices.
  • Maintain a number of records and reports on activities, repairs performed and equipment.
  • Ability to properly document activities on both paper and computer format as required.
  • Ability to interpret schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to obtain a R134A or current mandated refrigerant certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in automotive technology or related field preferred.
  • ASE Certifications preferred.

Responsibilities
