About The Position

Advanced or Group Lead shop/field role that requires advanced knowledge of operational procedures and tools obtained through extensive work experience and may require a technical or vocational education. Works under limited supervision for non-routine situations and may be responsible for leading daily operations. Provides assistance and training to team members. May delegate work tasks and review the work of others for quality. Problems are typically difficult and non-routine, but not complex. Plan and perform a normal range of operations connected with the assembly and erection of company-produced machines. Work involves working from complex drawings and a considerable number of component parts that require skill and care to align, fit, and assemble into units and obtain exacting operating performance and appearance. May act as a group leader.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read blueprints and interpret less complex specifications.
  • Must have basic understanding of mechanical assembly.
  • Understand and operate various hand and power tools involved in assembly.
  • Willingness to assist assembly team with other duties as required.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills; be able to independently solve problems while interacting with various teams and teammates on daily processes and flow.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking various duties throughout the day, have a positive attitude with an ability to be versatile and flexible.

Responsibilities

  • Work from complex assembly drawings, specifications and instructions to plan work in proper sequences
  • Assemble complex sections of machine of various combinations thereof as indicated by customer specifications
  • Perform assembly operations to exacting tolerances; work with various types of parts including rotating shafts, gear trains, mechanical structures, and sprockets
  • Assess workforce needs and review with supervisor; assign work in accordance with priority and individual capability; ensure all materials, tools, and supplies are available to allow workflow through assigned area
  • Lead, guide, coach or mentor less experienced team members; be a positive role model for the team
  • Review and prioritize shortages and report quality issues; communicate concerns and make recommendations for corrective actions
  • Collaborate with engineering on design/process opportunities based upon manufacturing needs
  • Review all documentation for completion and correctness; make changes as needed based on product and safety requirements
  • Communicate to team the team’s performance to relevant KPIs; develop plan of action to correct any missed opportunities
  • Generate standard work procedures; train others on process
  • Ensure that work areas and equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly condition and all safety regulations are observed; report and correct any unsafe work practices or conditions immediately
  • Modify procedures/processes based on design changes; document and communicate changes to team
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures
  • Maintain work areas and equipment in clean, orderly, and safe fashion
  • Other duties as assigned
