About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer I is an entry level/junior role that supports the design-to-order (DTO) engineering process for IEM’s low and medium voltage power distribution products. This role involves extensive 3D modeling and 2D drafting, creating and maintaining BOMs, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project specifications and timelines. The Mechanical Design Engineer I builds on foundational engineering skills to contribute to project success while developing expertise in DTO project cycles, designing for manufacturability, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

• BSME or equivalent required
• 0-2+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in DTO or custom engineering.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Pro E
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

Nice To Haves

• Candidates with EIT certification on the path to Professional Engineer (PE) licensure are preferred.
• Exposure to sheet metal design is preferred.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designing and customizing mechanical solutions to meet client-specific requirements, focusing on manufacturability and compliance with industry and internal standards.
• Creating 3D models and 2D drawings, including client coordination drawings and fabrication documentation.
• Creating and maintaining BOMs for standard product line assemblies and DTO project workflow.
• Supporting collaboration with internal teams to ensure designs are aligned with project goals and timelines.
• Providing technical support during manufacturing and installation phases to ensure seamless project execution.
