About The Position

The Specialty Mfg. Co. is a vertically integrated company offering the industrial and manufacturing sectors a one-stop-shop solution for products, machining, molding, and light assembly. From stock items to the design and production of custom parts and machinery, our five divisions provide the solutions and support you need every step of the way. We are looking to expand our Continuous Improvement Team and add a dynamic and driven Mechanical Design Engineer to our White Bear Lake location! The ideal candidate will have strong background in mechanical engineering design, foundational programming or automation knowledge, and a passion for creating innovative manufacturing solutions. This role will focus on automated machine design, tooling and fixture design, process improvement, and production support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field, highly preferred
  • 3–5 years of mechanical or manufacturing engineering experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Strong proficiency in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings)
  • Experience or coursework in mechanical design, machine design, or tooling design
  • Ability to read and apply engineering drawings and basic GD&T
  • Hands-on aptitude with machining, fabrication, and assembly concepts
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to work on the shop floor
  • Good communication and teamwork skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement concepts

Responsibilities

  • Design production fixtures, tooling, and custom manufacturing equipment using SolidWorks
  • Design and build semi-automated and automated machines to support production and testing
  • Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings (GD&T, BOMs, tolerances)
  • Support fabrication, machining, and assembly of designed equipment and fixtures
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to improve throughput, ergonomics, and repeatability
  • Troubleshoot equipment and fixture performance issues and implement design improvements
  • Support new product development with manufacturability input and custom tooling solutions
  • Work with vendors and integrators for components, controls hardware, and fabricated systems
  • Maintain engineering documentation, revisions, and change control
  • All other duties as assigned
